The Kawartha Handweavers and Spinners Guild originated in 1964, when Greta Scobie, with fifteen members, initiated a night course in beginning weaving at Lindsay Collegiate.
When the opening meeting of the present group was organized on September 8, 1988, it was suggested their former name be recalled as Helen Webster, a founding member of the original group, was also a member of this new Kawartha Handweavers and Spinners Guild.
