Kinmount Fair - September 1-3, 2017
The Guild members had an amazing time participating in the demonstrations in the Pioneer building of the Kinmount Fair. Several Guild members brought their wheels or spindles and many yards of wool were spun. The 1850 barn loom was warped by our members in advance of the Fair so that 4 beautiful red and white placemats could be completed in honour of the Canada 150 theme. They were done in 2/8 cotton for the warp and a red wool for the weft. It was exciting to be a part of this demonstration, realizing you were working on a loom that has seen so many projects and endured for 167 years and still going strong. A real connection to the past and our love of weaving and fibre.

the Guid members in honour of the Canada 150
Theme. Displays of different fibres, different woven
and felted items, as well as a knitted maple leaf
were the focus.

Dyeing for Colour Workshop - September 10, 2015
On September 10th, most of us
met to participate in a workshop with Faye Jacobs on dyeing wool yarn with food
colouring. We gathered around tables and with our gloves on and the skeins on
the table, we grabbed our quirt bottles and went to work.
The yarns are going to be used in a future
Guild Challenge.
Thanks to Michele, our new President, for
hosting us.

At Kinmount Fair - September 4-6, 2015
We were invited to demonstrate weaving and
spinning at the Kinmount Fair on September 4, 5 and 6. It was a very hot weekend but that didn’t
stop our members from working with wool to produce Hudson’s Bay-style bags on
the barn loom and using spinning wheels and spindles to show the fair-goers how
to make yarn.
